Old English Papers

I wrote this paper last year in Honors Comp. I remember hating the teacher and the subject of this paper with a burning passion, but looking back, I'm grateful for her and the challenges she put in front of me. I love teachers that let you use the Bible as a source.

"The sport of Ultimate Frisbee is unlike any other sport around. Basketball and soccer can be played one-on-one, a
player and her opponent, no help anywhere in sight. Trips to the batting cage can be made alone, no one there to help
fight the monster pitcher. Frisbee, on the other hand, requires fellowship. Multiple people are on one team and are all
striving for the same goal. That goal is victory, to reign supreme over the opponent. We don’t always like who is put on
our team, but we work with them nonetheless and can succeed. Life, like Frisbee, requires fellowship. In order to live
the good life, we must take the hand of our friends, family, and even our enemies, and not be afraid to ask for help.
Then, and only then, will we be able to enjoy the good life of having fellowship and fun in everyday life.

Take a journey with me to the small coastal town of Titusville, Florida. At W.W. James Little League Fields, a group of teenagers, as different as they were alike, gathered each and every Sunday for a game or two of Frisbee. Being one of these teenagers, I trekked out to the fields whenever I could to play and learn about life. Each game started out the same way, the choosing of teams. We lined up, schoolyard style, and waited for that fateful moment our own name was called. No matter which team I was picked for, the goal was always the same, to help each other win. It did not matter if I got along with my teammates, if I liked what they were wearing, or who their parents were. What mattered was that the exact moment we were all picked for the same team, we created a fellowship, a group of people with a common interest.

After teams were picked, Josh would drive his giant royal blue Ford Bronco to the sideline and blast his music, which set our mood; it sent us into a perfect world, free of distraction and pain. After jamming out for a few minutes, the games started. The field looked daunting at first, but the more people I had in my fellowship, the easier it was to master that field. Frisbees flew overhead; people ran up and down the field, names were screamed as teammates looked for an opening to throw to. No one played alone anymore. Teammates became lifelines, people to turn to when I was surrounded by opponents. After countless sprints up and down the field, each game eventually came to an end. Some games I won, some I lost, but each had the same outcome: new friends, new memories, and most importantly, happiness. Win or lose, I was living the good life.

Living the good life is much like the friendships made and the challenges encountered during one of these summer games of Ultimate Frisbee. We faced distractions, like Josh’s music, everyday, and we have to find a way to look past these noises and get ahead. In order to get by and live the good life, we all must grab the hands of our friends and have fun.

My friends are there for me, with outstretched hands, no matter what. They have pushed me forward when I didn’t feel like I could go on. When I feel like I’m being surrounded by obstacles, I just have to call their names, and they are there for me. The more people I have on my side, the easier it is to accomplish my tasks, but I know that even if I fail, my friends will still be there for me to pat me on the back and help me get better for the future. Life may seem daunting, but as long as I’m surrounded by people who love me, I can get through anything. For instance, when I was in the eighth grade, my cousin was killed in a car accident. The grief I felt was immense, I didn’t want to go to school anymore and I didn’t see a real reason to live. My friends were there for me in this time of need. They pushed me to go back to school and face everyone. Without them, I doubt I would have made it through middle school, let alone to college. As it says in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; if one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up.” I fell but my friends were there to pick me back up and help me continue. Without them by my side I would have given up.

Friends can do this for everyone. Everyone has at least one person who is there for them all the time. Someone they can call in the middle of the night just to talk, cry, or complain. Without these friends, who would be there to tell us when we need to go on, when we need to just try again, when we aren’t trying hard enough, or even if we simply smell? These are all things only a true friend would do to benefit the life of another friend.

These true friends and the fun we have with them are the only things necessary to live the good life. So go out and make friends. Find something you have in common with someone else and start a club, group, or sports team. Make new memories and don’t forget to smile. A few years from now, you will look back on your life and wonder how you lived before meeting these new people, I know I do. As William Morris says, “Fellowship is Heaven, and lack of fellowship is Hell; fellowship is life, and lack of fellowship is death.” Go out and be alive, live in Heaven. Go grab the hands of your friends and play the game of life, because it, like the game of Ultimate Frisbee, has a simple point: to have fellowships and fun in everyday life. By doing so, you will always be happy and living the good life."

Glee

Glee just gave me an amazing hour to laugh, scream, and say "Oh my God" outloud (in my empty living room). I also LOVE this guy.......

I want to meet him someday and tell me how amazing he is. Wow. That boy can dance.

Christina Perri

I love this song sooo much.

And I love this video too. The dancers are fantastic, the choreographer (Stacy Tookey) is brilliant, and Christina Perri is fierce.

An Update about College

Well, I'm a little more than a week into school and I thought I'd post an update about how it's going.

Starting from scratch is never easy. The same is true for starting a new college. My first week was a little rough, but I have learned that beginnings never are. But I'm not fully in the swing of things. I absolutely love UCF. I love being at a big school. I love seeing my friends. I love knowing people. I love hearing my name being yelled from across the walkway and turning to see a familiar face. I do not, however, love General Education Programs. I despise Biology and History. But I'd have to do those at any school.

My education professor is the sweetest lady and I really hope I get the chance to take more classes with her. She seems really helpful and caring.

I actually don't mind the drive to school either. It gives me the chance to wake up, start my day with my favorite CDs and think. I love edible food, which Flagler did not have. :)

So basically, this move was a great choice. I do find myself thinking about my friends from last year and what's going on over there, but I know I'm happier now. <3

I've recently become obsessed with tumblr. Because of this I decided to get one.
A few main reasons:
Tumblr is better for posting videos and pictures.
My life is too boring to keep a blog about.
I can now follow the tumblrs I like.

http://singinganddancingthroughlife.tumblr.com/
I added a question feature too. And if you find a post you liked on someone elses tumblr, you can submit it to me so I can see it too.

Can someone tell me what the heck happened to summer? It's already August. Landon starts school in a week. I can't believe he's going to be a junior!!! I start class in 3 weeks. I'm super excited to get to UCF, find my way around, make new friends, and spend time with my old friends there. It's going to be good for me, I just know it. Of course, Spring semester will be better (granted Monica gets in, which I know she will).

I feel like I did nothing all summer. I babysat a lot, went on two vacations, and hung out with friends, but I also spend a lot of time at home. I don't mind really, it just made summer seem to go by that much faster.

Things I'm looking forward to:

Football season is right around the corner. That means going to UF to see friends and games.

Having a car and a lighter schedule, meaning I can go visit more people.

Monica coming to Orlando.

SYTYCD tour.

Making new friends, having bigger classes.

Being able to help out with Terrier Sound.

EXCITEMENT!!!!

Today, SYTYCD tour tickets went on pre-sale and I got to purchase them since my dad has season tickets at the Amway. After 20 minutes of frustration I finally got floor seats!! Monica and I are going to have a spectacular time. September 30th can't come soon enough. Seeing all my favorites dance live is going to be an experience unlike any other. YES!!!

Lauren's Craziness

The first dance I post from last weekends performances has to be Lauren's hiphop routine with allstar tWitch. No one thought sweet Lauren had it in her, but she proved them wrong.

Please ignore Cat Deeley's horrendous outfit as she announced the couple....

Brown Weekend

I haven't posted any dance videos since Thursday because I was thoroughly enjoying my brown weekend, and by "brown" I mean Indian. Kavs and I decided to go to Gainesville and visit Mausam and boy am I glad we did. It was a ton of fun, probably the best weekend of the summer.

Let's start with Friday. Kavs and I left the ville around 12 and arrived in Gainesville promptly at 241, just like my GPS said we would. We drove to Mausam's apartment and then went over to the Shivani's condo, where we would be staying for the weekend. Shivani, Shivee, and Chandani were there to meet us. We went to the mall, where we met Vinit and Prashanth, shopped for a while and then got very hungry. Shivee suggested this Italian place called Fresco's so we went there for dinner (and I begun my meatless weekend, which was quite refreshing). It was delicious. After Fresco's we went back to Shivani's played Apples to Apples and then got ready for the vault. Nikita and Tushar met us and we were off. The vault was definitely an interesting experience. It was fun, but I don't think I'll be going clubbing anytime soon. After that, we went back to the condo and hung out for a long time. (Did I mention that this weekend was sleepless?)

Saturday we woke up, hung out for a while and then went to Target, Plato's Closet, Yum Cupcakery, Satchel's Pizza, and Mochi FroYo. The Cupcakery was like ColdStone for cupcakes. Delicious and overwhelming. At Satchel's we waited 1.5 hours for a table and ended up getting to sit in the van. (They have this old hippy van they put tables in and if you're very lucky, you get to sit in it). Mochi was also delicious. After Mochi, we went home and made friendship bracelets and watched About a Boy.

Sunday, Kavs and I had to leave :(

There are a zillion other awesome things I'm forgetting to mention, but I can't think straight right now because I'm exhausted. But one more awesome thing I have to mention is that Monica is applying to UCF for the Spring!! YAY! My Flagler buddy will be with my again!

Worst day of the week

Thursdays are the worst day of the week. This is because on Thursdays, one dancer is voted off. I'm worried this week because on of my favs (Billy Bell) was injured this week and may not be able to do a solo tonight. Nigel (the producer/judge) said we need to rename the show Survivor. Four injuries so far....
The routine I really wanted to put up today isn't available yet so I had to settle for this one. It's not really settling though because this is amazing too. It's the top 7 and all-stars from this season doing a Tyce DiOrio broadway routine. I love Tyce, a lot.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

It's Wednesday

which means it's competition day on SYTYCD. It also means I won't post a video because I'm busy watching them live.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

It's time for another Season 7 routine. Twiliex - Twitch (all-star) and Alex (top 10) performing a hip-hop routine. Alex was definitely set to win this season, but he pulled a Beckham and tore his Achille's tendon. He was forced out of the competition due to injury, had surgery a week ago today, and is now on the road to recovery. I really hope he decides to come back next season.

Day 4

Season 6, Jakob and Ashleigh - hip hop routine. I'm really hoping Jakob will be on tour with the rest of the finalists this summer. Season 6 didn't get to have a tour, so they're combining tours with season 7. It'll be great. I've had this song stuck in my head since I watched this video.

Day 3

Four seasons ago, this routine was performed and I still can't forget it's beauty. I'm pretty sure it was featured on a newer season too. That's how good it was and still is.
Choreographed by Mia Michaels and danced by Lacey (Benji's sister) and Neil (who is now an all-star) There isn't much I can say about it, which is why I chose a video that includes Mia explaining what happened AND the judges talking to the dancers after. If you haven't watched any of the videos yet PLEASE watch this one. It's beautiful. that's all I can say...

Dance

I've officially decided that I'm going to dedicate a post (or two) a day that will feature my favorite routine from sytycd. Bear with me if you're not the dancing type. I used to hate watching shows like this, but the more I watched, the more I realized how beautiful dance can be. These people are amazingly talented and deserve recognition for what they can do. Pay attention and maybe you'll learn something (about dance or about me) from one of these posts...

With that said, here's today's dance. It combines four of my favorite things - Travis Wall, Kent, Lauren, and contemporary dance. Travis choreographed this routine for two top 10's. It's about prom, obviously, and depicts the story of two teenagers who don't want to part after the night is over.....

I'm 99.9% sure that kiss wasn't part of the routine.

Tranji

I figured it'd be treason to post that last blog without introducing you to the duo known as "Tranji". Travis Wall (in blue) and Benji Schwimmer (in green), season 2 runner-up and winner respectively. Here's the hilariously beautiful hiphop routine they did for the finale.

Current Obsession

I'm currently obsessed with a show on Fox called So You Think You Can Dance (sytycd). This isn't the first season I've watched it, but it has been a while. The last season I watched from beginning to end was 2 and now they're on 7. But I tuned in at a great time because not only is my favorite season 2 contestant now a full-time choreographer, all the pieces anyone has choreographed so far have been amazing.

I figured I'd share three of my favorites so far...

First is Robert (a top 10 finalist) and Allison (an all-star)'s routine choreographed by that season 2 contestant, Travis Wall. It's about Travis' struggle with his mom's health issues.

Next is Alex (top 10) and Allison (all-star)'s routine to Hallelujah. I have to admit, I teared up...

Finally, is Billy (top 10) and Kathryn (all-star)'s routine to Jar of Hearts by rising singer Christina Perri. Fabulous routine to a fabulous song...

Have you ever had one of those stretches of time when you don't know what's happening? Like you don't know what you're living for or what you should be doing with your life? That's what's happening to me right now.

Let me explain before you think I've gone all depressed or suicidal or something.

I go out during the day/night and do things with my friends/family. I have fun while I'm doing them. Then late at night, I wonder why I did the things I went out to do. I wonder what the point of the day was.

Maybe I just shouldn't stay up so late. That could be the problem.

Also, I've realized that my blogs have been going downhill fast. I re-read some old blogs and then read recent ones... I apologize for the lack of quality.

Invisible Children

That "one American" killed in the bombing in Uganda yesterday was not just one American. He was Nate Henn, an Invisible Children advocate who traveled around the U.S. raising awareness for the cause. His work saved lives but no one could save his. It's truly a tragedy what happened to him and it just reaffirms the old saying, "only the good die young." He saved thousands of children and helped get the bill to arrest Joseph Kony passed into a law, saving the lives of the millions of children yet to be born in the Congo areas. He died doing what he loved. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his loving girlfriend in their time of grief.

If you have no clue what the Invisible Children organization is or don't know who Joseph Kony is, shame on you. Google it. NOW.

Hope

is what this Michael Buble song gives me. I know I posted it a while pac, but I rediscovered it recently.

I also think it's really lame to post exactly what I'm doing everyday here. But I don't really have much else to say. So if you're interested in what I'm doing, go here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ember315

I don't really have much to say...

Well, the "intense babysitting", as my friends call it, is over and life is good. Chris is finally back from Deutschland, Mausam is home for the week, and Kavs is home from India. Just in time for me to go on vacation. Isn't life funny?

Babysitting the twins was a lot of fun. We went on a few day trips (zoo, movies, McDs), watched some movies at home, and played a lot. Hanging out with two 5, almost 6, year olds tires one out, but it's definitely rewarding. After I got done with the twins, I took Cart to t-ball. Watching little kids play sports is always entertaining and really cute. They all run after the ball no matter where they are on the field and they think playing with clay is more fun than watching for the next hitter. I guess it isn't important how well they play as long as they enjoy it.

Thursday night, Chris came home. Monica and I went to the airport with his family to greet him. Seeing him in person was awesome and it's great to finally have all of my best friends back in the States.

Friday, an afternoon storm caused my power to go out from 3-8pm. Luckily, Clare saved me for a little while by taking me to Target and Marshalls.

The next day was the Grover's anniversary party. I got to see Megan for the first time in forever and a day! She's here for a month!!! I also got to see the Pauls and Emilie which is always a fun time. Then Mausam and I went to S.C. Ice Cream to see Chris, Clare, Jessyca, Sherri, and Nathan. After that, the two of us went to R. Kelly's house to say hi.

Today I mostly just lounged around until we went to Durango's for father's day. Steak and potatoes are delicious.

Like I said, I don't really have much to say. But I do have one more semi-interesting thing.
On Facebook, I did a little spring cleaning. Meaning I deleted people I either don't talk to, have no interest in talking to, don't really know, or don't really like. A couple days after I cleaned I went outside to go somewhere and noticed a few broken eggs in my grass and on my driveway. Since I don't have any known enemies, and my friends tp and put up pictures (not attempt to egg things) I have a funny feeling it was someone I deleted. Too bad the poor person 1)has bad aim and 2) has so little of a life they had to resort to egging things to repay me.

Now I am in no way encouraging the person to try again, because if they do I will call the cops. I'm just saying, get a life. It's not a big deal. You have real friends. Concentrate on them please.

Whoops...

Sometimes life gets the best of me and I forget how to write. Life has been doing just that for the past month. I've been feeling completely uninspired and didn't really feel like writing a blog about nothing. But I guess it's been too long since I've written anything at all, so I should get to it. Inspired or not.

Let's see... I'll save the best news for last.... So first things first - how have I been spending my summer? Well, for some odd reason every single one of my best friends decided that they needed to not be in town for the summer. I got to see Mausam, Dargan, Alison, and Kelly for like a week when they were here but now they're all off doing other things and I'm still at home. I've been killing time by babysitting like there's no tomorrow. But I'm not complaining because I absolutely love my "cousins" or however they decided that they're related to me. I've also already purchased a MacBook Pro, which is what I'm using to type this right now. Now I think I'm going to save up my money for an iPhone 4 whenever AT&T decides I'm eligible to buy one.

Other than that I've just been hanging out at home doing nothing really. I went to THS graduation and FUMC graduation in May. It was so weird sitting in the bleachers watching THS kids graduate. I've never seen it from that point of view before. And I can't believe that my "cousins" are old enough to graduate preschool. It really does seem like just last year their mommies were watching me graduate pre-k.

Exciting news - It's the 9th of June, which means Germany gives me back my best friend in 8 days!!! Once he's back, I won't be alone in Tville anymore.

Next weeks plans - Sunday-Wednesday I get to play mommy for the twins. SG is super excited about having a slumber party with me. She keeps coming up with these crazy plans, some of which will not fly. Among them are, going to the beach to get seashells, swimming, going to the park, going to the zoo, and staying up til midnight every night. I think we all know which one of those is NOT happening.

And now I guess it's time for the best news of all - Nick is officially in remission!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooo grateful for God answering all of our prayers! Let's just all pray that he stays that way now.

Kids Say

As I'm sure you know, I've been teaching before/after care at preschool this past week and will continue to do so until the school year is over next Friday. One of my favorite parts of teaching is listening to the things the kids say. Because as Bill Cosby used to say "kids say the darndest things". I decided to (every now and then) share a couple of the cutest, and most confusing, things that have been said to me so far because everyone needs a little laugh every now and then. (no names because I don't have permission from their parentals)

CJ - "Ms. Lisa ran away like a Gosselin."
Me - "You mean gosling? Like a baby goose."
CJ - "No! Gosselin, he wears a red hat and he ran away."
(She meant Jon Gosselin. How she knows who he is, I do not know.)

Gracie - "Emily, I'm allowed to kiss you because you're not just my teacher, you're my family."

A general note to everyone I know.
I WANT to live at home next year. Don't worry about finding me a place to live, I have one. Maybe next year we can talk about housing, apartments, and houses. Thanks.

Sorry, it just bugs me when everyone wants to know if I need help finding a house. Nope, I don't. I have one.

Plain Living

During nap this week I have been reading the book "Amish Peace: Simple Wisdom for a Complicated World". Ever since my first visit to Amish County, PA I've been obsessed with the Amish way of life. It amazes me how happy and carefree they seem. The book I'm reading is not about how to become Plain. It's about how an English person can take simple steps to become more like a Plain person. It's actually am amazing book that every Christian, and non Christian, should read. Some of the steps, I can't take yet, because they have to do with marriage and children. But the ones about technology I can take. One thing I read that surprised me was that the Amish don't shun technology, they shun being overly attached to it.
They have a telephone in each community so they can make important calls. They let their sick use modern medicine. They use solar, wind, and water power to fuel their farm equipment. They just aren't attached to the technology they have. If something breaks, no big deal. They have another, simpler, way of doing whatever it is they need to do.
In order to become more Plain and less English, I bought a watch. It seems weird since the Plain aren't attached to time, but I know what I'm doing. By buying a watch, I can use it to tell time. (duh.) But it also means I don't need my phone with my 24/7. It never fails that when I look at my phone to see what time it is, I also check e-mail, facebook, etc. But if I look at my watch, I'll read the time and go on with life. Telling time, takes less time if that makes any sense.
Being Plain is just better. Better for health (Amish have a lower percentage of members with heart disease), better for family (there is no divorce), better for me.

Today I got my heart broken... By a 5 year old with blonde spikey hair. At snack time, he sat down at his assigned seat. I looked at his name card, saw his last name and immediately knew who he was. That's when the first rip in my heart started to happen. How could such a sweet boy have to be put through such a hard time? On the way to the playground I was holding his hand and I finally got the courage to ask him how his brother was. He smiled, held up one finger, and said "he has one left." That's when the next rip happened. I tried to smile and replied, "One more and the doctors will make him all better." Hoping I was right. The boy looked at his feet and whispered "He has cancer." It took all I had not to break down right then. All I could say was "I know and I'm praying."

A five year old shouldn't know what cancer is. They shouldn't have a brother who is fighting it. And they definitely shouldn't know how treatment works. I think I would be mad at God for this if I hadn't literally just finished the book Letters to God. It's about a boy with brain cancer who uses the short life he has to inspire others to follow God. Although I pray Nick's condition doesn't take the same route Tyler's did, I do pray he makes the same impact. Life is fragile. Bad things happen to good people. We just have to learn to have Faith. And pray.

Shopping

Mausam, Kelly, and I went to the FloRida Mall today to do some serious shopping. Why is it that I spend the most money when I'm not planning on buying anything. Granted, one shirt was not for me, but I can't explain what it was because a Little Ms. Nosy will read this and figure it out. :P
Anyways, I bought a really cute skirt which will come in handy for the zillion graduation parties I have to go to in the next two-three weeks. Can I say how weird it is to be attending parties for people younger than me?? It seems like just yesterday I was planning my own party.
But yeah, I finally got my hands on the new AltPress magazine. (it came with two lovely pictures of Nick Santino and Maika Maile, which have both found their way to my wall). I saw the new HotTopic ARTTM shirt in person. It was actually a lot cuter that I expected. But I refrained from buying it considering I already have two shirts of theirs I bought from tours.

Today closed out one of the best 7 day spans of my life. The only thing that could have made it better would be if the Like We Used To video would have been released on time. Oh well...

Thursday, April 29, 2010

May I just quickly comment on how hot it was outside today?! Last night, I walked out to the pool and started shivering because it was around 50 (please remember that I'm a Floridian, born and raised, before you judge). But today, I walked around UCF with Nicole and nearly burned to a crisp. It must have been near 90 because I was in shorts, flip flops, and a tank top and I was STILL sweating. Weather, I'd really appreciate it if you stopped being so bipolar.

On a couple side notes, I bought a study guide for my FCTE General Knowledge Test. Good thing too, because it told me that I'm not allowed to bring a calculator for the math portion. Kill me now.

I also learned that I AM going to get lost on my first day of classes. Yes, I realize campus is just a circle, but still. I'm used to having all my classes in one building. This whole humongous campus thing will be interesting.

My Hanson concert kept messing up today so I only got to see Zac sing one song. Tomorrow is supposed to be all new songs, so I hope I can catch it.

I'll leave you with something funny Elise said to me today "Just because I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't read the menu." (she was, of course, referring to boys)

It's the Best Week Ever

It's only Wednesday, but I think I can declare this week the best week I've had in a long time. Here's why.
Sunday - Concert with Chrissy. Met Eric. Had lots of fun.
Monday - Helped in before care, relaxed. Nick Santino replied to my message (I died when that happened)
Tuesday - Picked Carter up from school, took him to McD's, went to Mausam's and hung out/watched Snow White.
Wednesday - Helped in AfterCare, ate Sonny's, watched JoBros live chat, watched live Hanson concert online.

Yes, I still love Hanson. They're still amazing. And if you were wondering, Zac is my favorite.

I also absolutely love all my aftercare kiddies. They're so cute and always make my day. (even when they misbehave).

Exhaustion

It's 1230 and I'm still exhausted from last night. The concert was a ton of fun and definitely worth the money. Sing it Loud's guitarists made me tired just watching them. One of them was wearing a Jonas Brothers shirt, which made me laugh. Fun. was, well, fun. They even busted out a flugelhorn halfway through their set. Motion City was absolutely crazy. Chrissy and I got stuck right next to the mosh pit, but we held our ground and both have the bruises to prove it.

A Rocket to the Moon was awesome, as usual. I was closer than last time, so I actually got some decent pictures. Nick Santino, being as in love with Taylor Swift as he is, busted out in some of her lyrics at the end of Baby Blue Eyes.

After the show, we hung out by the merch tables. I bought a new shirt from Peter and saw Andrew (arttm's drummer) chatting with friends. I left him alone since he was busy. But then we ran into Halvo trying to find the bathrooms. He was nice enough to stop to chat and take a picture. My heart skipped a beat or two when he put his arms around me. I'm seriously in love with that boy. (and by in love, I mean I wish I actually had a chance with him because he's pretty awesome)

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better night. (well, It would have been better if Nick would have come out, but I'll take Eric anyday).

Until next time.

Long days

These past few days have been veryyy long and very fun. Friday was Epcot, today was Annabelle's baptism/ baptism party, and tomorrow is the Motion City Soundtrack/ A Rocket to the Moon concert with Chrissy. I'm pretty pumped for that!! I've already seen ARTTM once and they're pretty awesome live. Maybe I'll actually get to say hi to them this time. :)

Free Writes

I woke up this morning with the uncontrollable urge to write. So I sat down and did a free write. I figured I'd share it with you.

In two more days I’ll be kissing this place goodbye. There will be nothing to do but look back for a minute and remember the times I’ve had here, good times, bad times, and all around confusing times. Will I wonder what it would be like if I stayed? Yes. Will I regret leaving for home? No. People are going to give me weird looks, I understand that. Most teenagers want to get out of their house as soon as they can. But what they don’t understand, what society as a whole doesn’t understand, is that not everyone is meant to go away to college. I like to think I’m more mature than your average college student. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable thought considering I have more friends that are out of college than your average 19 year old. I don’t think it’s weird that I go shopping with my eighth grade English teacher, because she’s my friend, nor do I think it’s weird to go out to dinner or sit and talk with 30 some year old mothers, because they’re my friends too. I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy hanging out with the friends I have that are my age. I’m just saying that I don’t fit into the stereotypical college student role. I don’t see the point of drinking until you can’t remember your own name, smoking, ever, or gallivanting around dressed like a, for lack of a better word, skank. To quote Relient K, “the party scene is kinda mean, I think it’s sick and twisted.” I don’t see a problem with spending my Friday nights watching a movie at home or going out to dinner, coming back home, and relaxing. This is why I will be kissing this place goodbye in two days. There honestly isn’t much to do besides party. I can’t stand being away from my family for this long. I want to sit on the couch and watch a movie with my mom. I had a life in Titusville, one that I liked, and I can’t wait to get it back again.

On a side note, my computer is giving me more reasons to switch to Apple. The sound randomly decides to stop working. It's annoying.

Sundays

Today was my last Sunday at Good News. I'm really going to miss going there each Sunday, but more than that I'm going to miss knowing which church to attend. When I got here, there was no question in my mind about where I would be spending my Sunday mornings. Now that I'm going home I have no clue. I have three main choices (CCC, PABC, and Redeemer). I hate when churches split up and leave me to decide where to go. agggh. It's kinda a really hard decision. But I'm sure I'll make it eventually.

In other news, I'm seriously debating getting a Macbook/Macbook Pro at the end of the summer. That is, of course, assuming I make enough money to afford one. Seeing as Macs are virtually virus-proof, "cooler", and A LOT easier to carry to and from class, it seems like a good idea to me. Plus, the Apple store gives discounts to students. I'm not 100% sure yet though.

UPDATE

An update on the last post....

I'll have TWO best friends (Kelly AND Christopher) at UCF next year!!! I'm about to pee my pants (Okay, not really. But I just can't think of any other way to describe how happy this makes me.)

And if you feel like watching the documentary Monica, Jessica, Bethany, and I slaved over for 100+ hours just follow this link.

A Closing Chapter

Alas, it's almost time to close another chapter of my life and open a new (hopefully better) one.

I just got back from my last hall meeting here at Flagler. I've signed up for a check-out time, started packing boxes, made a cleaning schedule, written letters, and now, just have to study for those few finals I actually do have. It's weird to think that I'll be leaving here in a matter of days.

I can hardly believe that my freshman year of college is already over. It's been fun, not-so-fun, terrible, great, and downright rotten (all at different time spans). It's full of new memories, new friendships, new lessons learned, new mistakes, etc. It makes me a little sad to think I won't be back next year. But it also makes me happy. I'll miss my friends, my awesome professors, and my freedom. I won't miss the annoying people, the crappy professors, being away from my family, feeling alone, not seeing my best friends, etc. All in all, the cons of Flagler outweigh the pros.

I can't wait to see what the next year brings me. Hopefully it'll bring me a school with spirit, my best friend, a new friendship with my cousin, old high school friends, and most of all, happiness. One doesn't realize how much they need their family until they're sitting in a room all alone with no one to talk to.

When I leave here, I'll glance back and try to only remember the good times. There are too many to list now. Then I'll turn around, look forward, and imagine the good times I'll have back home. I honestly couldn't be happier with my decision to leave.

When one door closes, another opens. A better door. One with a few more smile and a few less tears.

Colors

My English professor made us write these weird story type things about a certain color. I wrote two and didn't really like either of them, but everyone kept telling me that they were good so I decided to post them....

Green
Green leaves, green trees, that green you turn when you're feeling nauseous. Kermit the Frog,
money, Irish eyes, rolling hills. Envy. Jealousy. New life, Springtime, Easter, New chalkboards,
stripes, ocean air.

Red
Red letters, red pens that mark my mistakes, red hearts. Stop signs, scraped knees, Ich liebe dich. Valentine's day, massacres, lipstick stains on the cheek of a love, nail polish, the muscle that keeps us alive. Nick's hair, first loves, the bringing and taking of life, bloodstained tears. Broken hearts, anger, accidents, tomato fights, boxes, the feeling I get when I remember how much I miss you

A Novel Idea

I've been sucking at blogging lately, mostly because I lost my creativity. So I figured I'd post bits of my short story thing I started, but didn't finish, last semester until the creativity comes back. I know it's not exactly Mark Twain, or even Stephenie Meyer for that matter, but enjoy...

It's called "Tension". And here's the first paragraph.

December 2009

The tension in the room could be cut with a knife. Tom and Eliza looked back and forth at one another, neither knowing what to do next. Eliza had always been a good, Christian girl, never getting in trouble in high school, but college had changed her. More importantly, meeting Tom had changed her. There was something about Tom, something Eliza liked. From the moment she met him, she was hooked. She knew his reputation, the bad boy, the one who always got in trouble. But she didn’t believe it, until today that is. Today, Eliza and Tom stood over the body of Scott Badtree and both knew that their lives would never be the same again.

Speak Up

I posted this on my facebook notes today, but I thought I should put it here too.

I'm doing a persuasive speech next week and thought I should share my statistics with you.

The topic is Reckless Teenage Driving: How to Prevent Death.
(For the purpose of my speech, reckless driving is defined as using excessive speed, drinking and driving, texting while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, being distracted, etc.)

Did you know that the leading cause of death in teenagers are car accidents? Not drugs, drinking, heart disease or cancer?

Car Accidents account for 1 in 3 teenage deaths yearly.

9 teens aged 16-19 died EVERY DAY in a car accident in the year 2008.

3500 teens are killed annually and another 350,000 are injured.

59% of teenage fatalities from car accidents occur when there are two or more teens in the car.

What can you do to save lives???

SPEAK UP!
Say something when your friend is driving too fast.
Tell them they can't drive home when they're been drinking.
Make them put their seatbelt on before you drive and before you allow them to drive.
Take their cell phone away until you arrive at your destination.
Remind the driver to pay attention to the road.

It's as easy as that.
If you speak up, they will listen.

I know from experience how much it hurts when someone you love loses their life in a car accident. I would have spoken up if I knew it would have saved his life. And I'm sure someone would have spoken up for Chelsea and Morgan if they knew what would happen if they didn't.

It's as easy as saying "stop". Just do it.

Another Awesome Day

Jill and I woke up late and lounged around the house until around 230. Then we went to pick up William and headed to the beach. I'm super glad it was warm enough to go out and actually catch some sun. Keegan, Stephanie, Michael, Mandernack, Ben aka Conrad, Ritza, and Sara met us there. We hung out, walked along the shore, buried Ritza and talked for a few hours and then we headed to Panda Express for dinner.

After Panda we went to Keegans and watched the Princess and the Frog in her theater. It was pretty cool. Then we hung out in her game room and Arianne and Alex brought their Germans over. I'm sad that I won't get to hang out with the new exchange students this year. :( But I'm sure they won't be as cool as Julia and the others were.

My day may seem boring to you, but it was awesome for me. I've really missed hanging out with everyone and it was just what I needed.

Now time to go back to school until summer break.

Practically Perfect, In Every Way

Today was the first full day of Spring Blink 2K10 and let's just say, I couldn't have really asked for a better day.

Jill and I woke up and went to IHOP at 930 to meet up with Sammyantha and Dargan. It was great getting to see the two of them and I really liked catching up. Plus, Eggs Benedict are delicious. After breakfast, Jill and I went up to THS to listen to 2nd block play. They have festival on Saturday so I didn't really get to say hi to Zahnita or say much to Bethany or Hannah or anyone else. But I did get to hug Schwindty.

In case you wanted to know, here's what I thought of second block: I can't give a real review since I didn't have the scores in front of me, but I thought they played really well. The normal problems still existed (rushing, intonation, etc.) but overall they did well. I was surprised at how skilled the horns seemed to be. Especially considering not a single player started on horn.

After second block, we headed up to Pre-k to visit the kids before lunch time. Those kids never fail to put a smile on my face. I love that they all remember me even though I haven't actually taught there since May. We went out on the playground and Joagster attached himself to Jill right away. He wouldn't let go the entire time. J, G, Carty, K, and all the other boys decided that we just HAD to play tag and then decided that that wasn't enough so they needed to attack me. It was tooo much cuteness to handle.

After Pre-K pickup, we went to lunch at Caffe Chocolat with Mom, Rach, Joag, and Gracie. They are such a talkative pair of 5 year olds.

Those are the main events that made my day so practically perfect.

Well that, and... I FINALLY GOT ACCEPTED TO UCF!!!

Birthdays, Birthdays, Birthdays

Although nothing can top going to Disney for an entire day with five of your best friends, but today was still pretty great.

I woke up and went to class as usual. Melissa thought it'd be hilarious to embarrass me in front of everyone (I'm pretty sure her motive was to get Dr. B to go off on a tangent though... which worked). After class I went to lunch with Jill and Becca and got a lovely note from Jill, an AWESOMELY ARTISTIC (:P) picture from Becca, and a beautiful Nate Archibald from Katie. After lunch, I just sat around and waited for the parentals to get here.

Once Momma and Dad got here, I walked over to the B&B and got.... A CAR!!!!! I'm super happy because Bentlay (say that with a Southern drawl) is super cute.

Speedy version of the rest of my day, because I'm getting distracted.
Walked around the shoppes, went to Red Lobster, opened a few more presents, went back to the B&B, sat with Momma and laughed and laughed and laughed, walked back to the room, made plans for the next two days. The end.

All in all, it was a pretty good day, if I do say so myself. I'm super glad that my parents got to be here for it. AND Spring Blink is in a few days!!!!
BEACH TIME!

Photo Diary

I started a 365 day photo diary a while back. I stole the idea from Sammyantha and Sara.
I decided to finally share it with someone other than Sam.
The idea is to take a picture everyday of yourself, something you did, or something you were thinking about and then add a caption about it.
I realize that some of my captions are sad, but that's because I was feeling sad those days (obviously).
If there's a picture of you on there, don't fret. It's not visible to anyone that doesn't have my username.
Some of my pictures aren't visible to you simply because everyone needs a little privacy. I said something I didn't feel everyone needed to hear. And I said whatever I said to remind myself where I came from.
But most of the pictures are visible.
So enjoy.

Comment Moderation

I suppose I should respond to the comments I've gotten since I tend to forget to do that. So I'll respond to the ones that need responding...

"Michael Buble"
Shelby - I know he's freaking fantastic! I'll definitely check out his album. :)

"And With That"

Mrs. W - Thank you sooo much for the support. I really appreciate you (and your sweet tea). You really are an awesome human being and I'm blessed to have you in my life.

Rach - I'm sure you do know, and I super appreciate the support. I can't wait to be back with you and the twins.

"Bye Bye Birdie"

Katie - I'm sorry I didn't mention you. But maybe it was payback for you humming the Fish Song and June, June, June in my ear the whole time!!! GG was fun tonight though. :)

Chrissy - I'll most def call you. My spring break is hella short so if I don't call you then I'll be back mid-April.

Family

Yesterday, my family gathered together to celebrate my Gidow's (Arabic for Grandpa) 80th birthday. It was a pretty amazing sight to see almost all of us together in one room for the first time in ages. Two were missing, Michael, who was in NYC working on an awesome kid's show (3rd and Bird) and Evan, who as most of you know, can't be with us in body anymore, but he was there in spirit.
The gathering was a lot more enjoyable than I expected. Being the only girl in the family, things tend to get boring for me. But my uncles, Mike and Rich, made sure to come over and talk to me instead of watching bball. Mike and my aunt, Millicent, were really supportive when Mom and I were telling them about my transfer. Millicent compared colleges to a dress, you have to keep trying them on until one fits, which made me laugh and feel better about leaving. Ryan, my cousin, was hilarious at the "kids" table. He sucks at coming up with clever comebacks and definitely still acts like a kid even though he's like 24.
All in all, the day was great and I'm glad we all got a chance to be together again. Hopefully it won't take as long for it to happen again....

Dear Evan,
I wish you could have been there to see us all together. We laughed, we talked, we ate, we played pool. You were missed, but I'm sure you were watching us from up above, smiling when we smiled.
Love you.

Bye Bye Birdie

Tonight, I went to see the musical Carousel with Jill and Becca. It was pretty good, but not without its issues. (intonation, mic volumes, lights, etc.) The boy who played the lead reminded me a lot of Ben, Conrad, whatever you wish to call him. In fact, he reminded me so much of Ben that I began to be swept back to my BBB days. Though short, and admittedly not by choice, those days were some of the best of my life. I had the chance to meet so many talented young actors, actresses, singers, and dancers. Tech week was terrible and Sammyantha was the only person who got through but, in the end, putting in 16 hour days at school was worth it.

I don't know what else to say besides that I miss being surrounded by musically and theatrically talented people. I miss the friends I made. And I even miss the pit. Singing every song and mouthing every line without ever even seeing what was going on on the stage. As a matter of fact, I never did get to actually see the play... What was happening above me was left up to my imagination.

Bye Bye Birdie, I'm gonna miss you so. Bye Bye Birdie, why'd you have to go?

And With That

And with that I see what my parents were trying to tell me all along.
Sorry it took me so long, but I'm there now.
Thanks for putting up with me while I figured it out.

Sometimes it's just a single straw that breaks the camel's back. Things are all well and good until that last single piece of straw gets set down and then it all crumbles.
That's exactly what happened here. One seemingly meaningless comment made indirectly at people I actually like and BAM everything crumbles down. Now I don't even want to be friends anymore, not that I thought we were in the first place.

Woo... thank you for letting me get that out. I just had to write it down so I can look back and remember how angry I am at this exact moment.

And don't bother asking what I'm talking about. Because if I wanted you to know, I have already told you.

TFT

I absolutely love Maika, Christian, Jay and Chris.

Someone Please Save Us

I really like this song. I don't really know why...

Someone please save us, us college kids
What my parents told me is what I did
They said "Go to school and be a college kid"
But in the end I question why I did

I'm poor, I'm starving, I'm flat broke, I've got no cash to spend
Sell all my books for front row tickets to Dave Matthews Band
My girlfriend's at another school I know this year will test her
I called, found out she had 3 other boyfriends last semester

And thats why I say
Oh no, not for me, not for me
Call it torture, call it university
No, arts and crafts is all I need
I'll take caligraphy and then I'll make a fake degree

80 grand later I found out that all I had learned
Is that you should show up to take your finals and your midterms
The party scene is kinda mean, I think its sick and twisted
The navy showed up at my dorm and claimed that I enlisted

[Chorus]

Don't get excited, she'll say "no" without a doubt you see
And I've decided college girls just won't go out with me
They make me nervous and they always catch me off my guard
Like cell phone service I drop out 'cause college is too hard

It's time to call my father
Cause it's his alma mater
Good grades aren't what they seem
I think he knows the dean
It's time to call my father
Cause it's his alma mater
He said he's proud of me
But college always was his dream
And I would always say it's not for me

[Chorus]

Phi, beta, delta, kappa
Do what will make you happy
Do what you feel is right
Only but one thing matters
Learn how to live your life

P.S.

UCF FINALLY got my BCC transcript.
Thanks to Landon's friend Shelby and her mom who just so happens to be a secretary there.
I should know in a matter of days if it's UCF or BCC next year.
I don't really have any doubts, so I'm not nervous.
I just want to know for sure.

Working Out

So Lauren and I decided weeks ago that we were going to start working out to get ready for the summer. Today was the first day we actually started. We used the stationary bikes for 40 minutes and I ended up going 13 miles, or so the bike told me. Afterwards, I couldn't feel my legs, I thought my knees were going to give out, and I was really sweaty, but it was actually quite satisying. I didn't realize that working out could make you feel so good. Not to mention, halfway through my second interval, an attractive boy came and sat at the bike next to me. I didn't say anything because I didn't really see any point in it, but it still made me smile.

Along with working out, I decided today was the day to start actually studying. This semester has been a lot more chill than last semester was. My LC is terrible and I despise 2/3 of the professors in it. They don't know what they're doing, EVER. But Psych is fun, so I started to actually read the chapters.

With everything I started doing today, my schedule went as follows:
8- wake up
9-12 - class
12-1 - lunch
1-2 - chill
2-3 - work out
3-4 shower
4-6 homework
6-730 - dinner at Applebee's
8-10 - The Bachelor/ Homework
10- now - facebook/homework/skype

One major thing missing from this schedule... TV. I usually watch at least 2 hours of it a day, but today, I didn't watch a single minute. This is really really good. :)
Let's just hope it all lasts.

One Day Without Shoes

I'm really excited to participate in this day. It's going to be hard to go the entire day without ever putting shoes on, and I'll probably get yelled at by my professors but it'll be worth it if I can get the word out. In America, kids take going barefoot for granted, but in countries around the world, people actually DIE from not having shoes. I've already bought (or rather, received for Christmas) one pair of Toms and I can't wait to buy another pair.

One for One.

Michael Buble

I used to make fun of Michael Buble (called him "Bubbly") but after hearing this song, I fell in love with him. He's really kinda awesome and this song is one of my recent favorite songs to listen to. The video also gets to me. When I was little, I would dream about running on top of the aisles at Walmart. I'd run and run forever and it was amazing.

Things I learned at the Concert

Nick Santino is even cuter in person.

Not all bands suck live, some are actually kick a**.

13 year old girls love this type of music.

Skip the Line had extra perks, such as acoustic sets by Mayday.

Travis is crazy.

His mom sews his pants after shows.

Love is like a Mickey Mouse bobblehead.

Walking around the ghet-to of Atlanta with red wine brain is a bad idea.

When in doubt, blame Fall Out Boy.

Don't shoot out the WTK gang sign in the ghetto, it's not the same as Westside.

Don't tell sketchy men that you don't have a way of contacting the authorities.

There's a difference between lying and protecting your band.

Don't let their name fool you, A Rocket to the Moon thought NASA sucked. (but mostly because they couldn't see the launch pads)

Chipotle is the only thing any of the bands eat.

WTK will call you if you write a message and your number on a beach ball.

The HOB is my favorite place.

I want to go again in April.

Beauty

Today is "Tell her she's beautiful" day according to Facebook. When the event first got started, I thought it was another stupid Valentine's Day event made to make single people feel bad about themselves, but now I have a different view.

I got a text this morning from a friend telling me I was beautiful. It was the first thing I saw when I climbed down from my bed and my first reaction, instead of smiling, was to be confused. I just stared at my phone wondering what was going on and trying to figure out if he had sent it or if someone stole his phone. Finally, I realized what day it was and thanked him.

The point of my story is that it's pretty sad that it takes a special day for people to tell other people that they're beautiful. And it's pretty sad that I didn't know how to respond to such a text. Shouldn't we (and by we, I mean all humans) be told that they're beautiful every single day? We definitely shouldn't be surprised when someone says that to us, especially a friend who I know thinks that I'm pretty.

Girls, and guys for that matter, in America grow up thinking no one wants them. Thinking they aren't beautiful because they don't have blond hair, blue eyes, wear a size 00, or have perfect skin. Whatever happened to the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" or "Beauty is only skin deep"?

I'd be lying if I said I have never fallen into the American beauty trap. I'm just as surprised as the next girl when someone tells me I look good. I nearly died when someone that looked like Adam Pittman told someone who looked like me that he liked me (whether he was lying or not, I still don't know, but that's not the point). The point is, we put too much on looks and not enough on what's inside a person. We're surprised when someone tells us we're pretty. We don't know how to respond or what to think. And something needs to be done about that.

So, tell her she's beautiful not just today, but everyday until all of America understands what beauty really is.

blahh

Let’s see… I can’t really think of anything special or important to say right now. I’m just ready for this semester to be over. Maybe that’s why I haven’t written anything. It’s not like I haven’t been having fun, it’s just that I’d rather be having fun elsewhere. I’m sick of nasty food. I’m sick of middle school-like drama. I’m sick of not being able to go anywhere. I’m sick of having the time to watch three movies in one day.
It’s week 5/14.
The one thing I am looking forward to is the concert. It’s going to be epic and fun and amazing. I can’t freaking wait. It’s all I really have.
But quite honestly, I’m sick of talking about this. I don’t want anyone else to ask me how I feel. I don’t know why people don’t get that.

I am completely, irrevocably in love with Notebook Doodles. That girl has amazing talent. The background of my computer is always changing between her sketches. Everyday she posts one that I love more and more.

Check it out!

In Case You Were Wondering

In case you didn't already know, I filled out my application for the University on Saturday. It's turned in and being processed (allegedly) as I write this. I did a lot of thinking, made a pro/con list, talked about it with friends and family, etc. and in the end, I think this is the best thing. I do love my friends here, they know that, but I love my family more. I'll probably end up living at home, at least for next year, because I don't have a snowballs chance in Hell of getting housing. That's the way things work at the U. But I'm looking forward to being with my best friend, basketball and football games, school pride, getting lost on campus, fighting for a parking spot, and being in classes of more than 20 students.

I'm taking the advice of a friend who knows me better than most people do, or at least that was true at some point in the not-so-distant past. "Make a decision and don't look back". So the decision has been made. There will be no "what if's", no "maybe I could have done it's", none of that stuff. I've taken the first step.. Here we goooo

On a different note: Formspring is kinda funny. I get to see what people have really been wondering. Although I'm not sure why they're all so obsessed about certain events.

Things that make me smile:

...

Ask me something, tell me something. It's anonymous.
http://www.formspring.me/flagleridian13

Apparently this is all the rage at Smallsville High. I have to admit, it's a cool concept for a world that wants to know everything but is too afraid to ask.

I'm going home tomorrow (that is, if English Comp doesn't kill me), and I couldn't be more excited.
I wish you knew how much it hurts when you shove things like this in my face. It's not that I don't want you to be happy, because I do. It's just that I wish I could have that kind of happiness before you do. I wish you understood why I feel like this. I wish you understood why I get so mad at you all the time. I wish we could be friends again, just friends. But that's never going to happen.

But most of all, I wish I could rewind the clock and go back to the summer where it all changed. I would not have to change much. Just one day here and one day there. They say what doesn't kill you will make you stronger, but I have yet to see that. Because it's killing me inside and I'm not getting any stronger.

"I wonder if there will ever be a day where I forget all about you. And I wonder if when that day comes, I'll be happier or just heartbroken."

Once upon a time words never hurt me, change never killed me, love never broke me, fear never shook me, and my hopes never faded. I never broke down and I was always happy. Once upon a time... I'm ready to be the girl I was. The one who never cried, never worried about love, and never got mad at stupid things.

Once upon a time I was warned and once upon a time I promised myself that I would listen to those warnings. Oops.

Okay, I'm done. That's the last time I'll dedicate a post to this. I give you permission to smack me if I ever do this again. Seriously.

Steps towards a decision

I told my parents and my friend Rachael about my debate (because they need to know, and she's been there before). So now I have some good support and people to talk to. I also started taking the necessary steps towards deciding what I want to do..... Pro/Con lists, E-mailing transfer services at the U, Starting an application (I can always tell them I changed my mind), figuring out what would transfer and what wouldn't, etc.

I also told my h.s. friends about it too. They always give me a hard time about not ever telling them anything, and I figured I need their help too, so why not?

The weird thing is, I've been slightly happier today and yesterday. But I don't know if that's because I know I have a way out, or because I really am happy. I guess I'll never really know.

It's really hard knowing what to do. Because it's hard to imagine exactly what it would be like if I did leave. I know I'll miss my friends like crazy. But is not wanting missing my friends enough to make me stay and maybe be unhappy?? I guess I'll figure it out in time.

On a side note: Babysitting was fun. BuG has gotten a LOT bigger since the last time I saw him. He's getting ready to crawl!! I think he's teething though, so he was very fussy. After he went to bed, Paul and I watched Tropic Thunder, the Hangover, and some of The Venture Brothers.... that's what happens when people don't get back til 2am.

24 Hours

I had 24 tearless hours this weekend. From Friday night until Saturday night. My stomach didn't hurt, I didn't feel like getting sick, and I wasn't really sad. I still wanted to be at home, but not so badly that I balled.

But nothing lasts forever, and those hours are long gone.

I wish someone would hand me a piece of paper with the answer on it. Just a one word answer: stay or go.

I don't want to feel like a failure for going, but I don't want to feel like I'm settling if I stay.

Someone please help me make it through these next 11 weeks.

6 and 4

Yep.

It's weird, because I wake up happy after falling asleep miserable.

Can't it be March? Because March I can deal with.

I just want to go home.

5 and 3

Today marks the fifth day of my stomach ache. I really don't know what is making it hurt so badly. Every time I go to eat, the sharp pain comes back and just as I am beginning to get tired, it worsens. I wish I knew how to solve things like that.

Today also marks the third time I've woken up after crying myself to sleep. I honestly have no idea why. Because during the day I'm happy here and I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be. But at night something comes over me and tears start streaming down my face. I'd really rather not talk about it, so please don't make me. The second I try to come up with an explanation, it starts again. I hate it. I never used to do this.

Please, please, please believe me when I say I love it in St. Auggie. I love it at Flagler. I don't want to go to school anywhere else. But as Sherwood says, "I miss home and I miss you. When there's no one around and nothing to do." It's only when I'm alone that I'm sad.

But enough of that, one thing that I'm super excited for is babysitting Saturday. My friend Paul and I are headed over to Paul's brother's house to babysit his son. I can't wait to see how much bigger he's gotten!!

Confusion and Trust

Ever since I can remember, I've been a planner. I've had a plan for life, love, school, the future, everything. I guess I should say I'm a dreamer... since you can't really plan any of those things. But the problem with being a dreamer comes when you start believing your dreams. When you forget what's real and what's not. In elementary school I used to dream about my future husband, I'd meet him in high school and we'd date off and on until we finally got married when I was 20 and he was whatever just like every other married couple I can think of at the moment. In my dreams, I never went to college, or if I did, it definitely wasn't for four years, I didn't ever work, I never studied, I just lived that happy life everyone dreams of.

Problems with my dreams: I started believing them. But I didn't "on and off" date anyone in high school. I don't know any boys here either. I am in college and will be here until graduation. I have to study.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy here. I just wish I was able to trust God more than I do. I'm starting to read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and I hope that'll help. I need to remember that His plan is a million times better than my dreams. He'll make everything happen in His own time, not in my time. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. He carries me through the most troublesome times in my life. He is always there and has planned this all out before. So why can't I just trust Him? I know that I'll look back on this in a few years and laugh. I'll be living the life that is best for me. But until then, I'll worry about what the future holds.

I'm happy. Genuinely happy. But these thoughts are always in the back of my mind.

Dear God,
Please help me to trust you more.

Crashing Point

Why is it that as soon as my life starts looking up, as soon as I'm finally happy, the world around me comes crashing down? Everyone I know seems to be hurting in some way or another and it sucks because I feel bad for being happy. I want things back to the way they were, but that won't happen until people apologize and make amends.

The only thing I have that makes me not feel like crap is God. But I'm not eloquent enough to know what to say to Him. It really kinda sucks. I want to have fun!!!!

Big Fears

Today is the day I begin to conquer on of my longest lasting fears... public speaking. Ever since I can remember, I've always been a terrible public speaker. When giving presentations, I'll have everything figured out and memorized, but when I get in front of the group, I freeze. I forget everything and I look like a moron. The funny thing is, when I'm teaching this doesn't happen. Senor Husted used to make me teach Spanish class so I could get the experience of being in front of a group of eager learners. I would stand in front of them all block long and go on and on about how to conjugate verbs without a problem. So I'm hoping that if I view my speech class as my students, and my speech as the most important lesson they'll ever learn, I'll be fine. We'll see how that goes though.

Public speaking isn't my only fear. I have other rational and irrational ones ranging from bees to sharks to being alone to car accidents to low flying planes....

Low flying planes is a peculiar one. I'm not, nor have I ever been, afraid to fly. I love flying, not only because it's quicker and more efficient, but because it's fun. But when I'm standing on the ground and a plane flys over my head I have a mini panic attack. Every single time. I think they're coming in too fast, too low, at too wide of an angle. Now I know exactly where this fear originates. Back in elementary school, shortly after 9/11, someone decided it would be a good idea to tell me that the government had found an Al Qaeda list stating planned attacks on the U.S. They then told me that the Space Center was on that list. Now, at that age I wasn't wise enough to be able to tell if this person was joking or not. And that is definitely not something anyone should joke about. To this day, I still haven't been able to shake that fear though. Everyday, I'd drive to THS and take a quick glance across the river, making sure KSC was still there. Everytime a plane flys overhead, I stand still waiting for a crash. I know that Tyco is near my house and chances are, every single one of those planes is scheduled to land there. I know that KSC would be a stupid attack site. But still, it's stuck with me.

The rest of my fears make sense. Bees sting. Sharks bite and have bitten friends of mine. Everyone is afraid of being alone. Car accidents have killed people I love. But I'm hoping to conquer planes and public speaking sometime in the near future.

I really don't know why I shared that with you. I guess I needed to stop thinking about it and write it down.

Hold Your Dream, Be My Escape

Have you ever disliked someone just because everyone else did? Have you ever not given someone a chance because of their reputation? Have you ever shunned someone just because other people were shunning them? Sure you have. I think almost everyone has. But how about next time, instead of joining everyone you do the right thing. Give them the chance they deserve. Please. I did and now I'm happier because of it.

Classes went pretty well today. My LC is going to do a great job linking all of the courses together and I'm definitely excited to start learning about education. Let's hope tomorrow goes as well.

Oh, how we regret those things we do.
And all I was trying to do was save my own skin, but so were You."

Overachiever

This isn't how I pictured things would be when I got back. But I've always been the type to daydream about the perfect world and then be disappointed when that dream doesn't come true. The difference this time is I'm not sure whether I'm happier with reality or if I'd be happier with the dream. I guess I'll figure that out once I get into the real swing of things.

I've also realized that you can't be on everyone's good side. No matter how hard I try to be nice to everyone, I can't be everyone's best friend. I guess I finally understand what Clare was talking about when she said she wasn't sure who she was anymore. Now that I can be anyone I want, who do I want to be?

REBECCA ROSENBERG!

Hi.... I love you. (Teehee...I had to do that. The next thing has nothing to do with Becca)

I'm pretty sure I deserve an apology. I don't care if it wasn't a "boozefest." I care that you don't understand why I didn't stop by to say bye. I care that you don't think you owe me an apology. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised. This isn't anything new.

Sorry, I had to get that out.

I'm definitely glad to be back with my friends. I know I've said that quite a few times already, but it's true. Classes start tomorrow and I can't wait to start learning more about education. It'll be loads of fun.

Being Back

It feels freaking fantastic to be back at school. Today is my first day back, but I don't feel right yet because my best friend/twin doesn't get back until late tonight. But I'm surprising her at the airport!

Sleeping was no fun last night. Bethany and I switched beds so now I'm up on the top bunk. Don't ask me how I got through 6 years of summer camp without ever having to sleep up top, but I somehow managed it. It's kinda sad that it was such a frightening experience. I kept waking up in fear that I'd fall out. But I think I'll get over that fear pretty quickly.

After I finally got up, Becca, Max, and I checked-in at the Student Center and then went to brave the d-hall together. The food actually wasn't half-bad (knock on wood), but that's probably because none of us attempted the hot food line. We stayed in the d-hall for a while catching up until the smell food started to get to us. On our way out we ran into Mattheus, Bret, and Nicholas for the first time since I've been back. I think we're all hanging out tomorrow. And we're going to the Ville to play laser tag Monday.

Now I'm going downstairs to welcome Ames back and see what everyone is up to. I can't wait to see the look on Jill's face when I show up with Lauren at the aeroport!!
